Design of Fixed-wine aircraft for radio control

Prerequisites: No experience necessary. Geared toward those who haven’t built such aircraft previously, but everyone will learn something.

Load: Six 3-hour sessions over 3 weeks

Time Outside Class: Approx. 5-10 hours per week

This course involves designing, building, and flying radio-controlled fixed-wing aircraft in teams. Students will learn how to:

-Recognize and recall alternative configurations of fixed-wing aircraft;

-Estimate/predict performance, stability, and controllability of fixed-wing aircraft;

-Generate and implement details of a design, including structure, propulsion, and control surfaces;

-Evaluate and implement options for fabrication, including at least laser cutting of balsa, wire cutting of foam, three dimensional printing, and covering.
